Hone’s Garden, Russell

Famous for their woodfire pizzas Hone’s Garden is an ideal dining spot for families and groups. There is plenty of room to spread out in this mostly outdoor restaurant with a subtropical garden backdrop.

Charlotte’s Kitchen, Paihia 

Sister restaurant to the iconic Duke of Marlborough, this modern eatery sits over the water at Paihia Wharf and serves up some of the best food in Northland.

There’s plenty of room for families to spread out, and kids will love watching the boats entering and exiting the dock. The menu is great for families with plenty of options perfect for sharing.

Zane Grey’s, Paihia 

Enjoy al fresco dining on the dock or dine indoors beside the aquarium! Either way, the kids will love the setting.  

Zane Grey’s Restaurant & Bar in Paihia has two fantastic dining experiences, an extensive drinks list, and delicious menus that hero local Bay of Islands produce.

Greens, Paihia 

Can’t decide between Indian or Thai cuisine? At Green’s Restaurant in Paihia you
don’t have to! They have full menu of delicious Indian and Thai dishes
available. There are takeaway options available if you prefer to enjoy at your
accommodation.

You even have their own robot server BellaBot who helps out with delivering meals and clearing tables!

Old Packhouse Market, Kerikeri  

Everyone can choose what they want to eat with multiple food options available at the Old Packhouse Market. Homemade pies, mussel fritters, smoky Texan-style bbq, crepes, and pastries are just some of the foods on offer. Parents can get their caffeine fix at the Old Packhouse Café.  

If you need something sweet to complete your meal pop across the road to Makana Chocolate factory.

Rusty Tractor, Kerikeri 

This country-style café in Kerikeri has long been a fave for families, with a
playground on-site and loads of cabinet options as well as a special kid’s menu
it’s easy to see why.

Their regular menu includes homestyle classics like bacon and egg butties and mince on toast. Wash it all down with a Supreme barista coffee.

Cafe Malaahi, Kaikohe 

This fave amongst locals is a great place for families to grab a bite to eat in Kaikohe. There are cabinet and a-la-carte menu options available. The menu boasts yummy classics done well, like BLT, seafood chowder, and steak sandwiches.

Sapphire Cafe, Ōkaihau

Go for the beautiful mural outside, stay for the delicious food and drinks.
You won’t miss this bright and cheerful café in the heart of Ōkaihau. Expect to
find great coffee and a selection of yummy slices and homemade pies – sweet and savoury! They also have a full à la carte menu on offer.

If you’re starting the trail in Kaikohe this is a perfect morning tea or lunch stop right on the trail.
