Dogs on the trail

Regardless of where or what type of biking you’re doing, you will be sharing the trail or road with other users. Dogs are allowed on parts of the trail. Where they are allowed the dog MUST be on a lead.

No matter where on the trail you are your dog MUST be on a lead.

Dogs are permitted only on the rail corridor sections in the following areas:

  • Ōpua – Kawakawa
  • Ōkaihau – Kaikohe Aerodrome

Dogs are not permitted in the following areas:

  • Kawakawa – Kaikohe Aerodrome
  • Macadamia Orchard (Hōreke Road) – Mangataraire Road. This is a 12.5km section of trail. (Ōkaihau – Hōreke)
  • A number of parcels of land adjacent to Hōreke Road managed under the Utakura No. 7 Inc. which prohibit dogs and horses. (Ōkaihau – Hōreke)
  • Ngapipito Road (Moerewa) – Suspension bridges. (Kawakawa – Kaikohe)

Note

  • Horses are not permitted without a Council consent
  • Keep to the trail and don’t trespass on private land
  • Try not to disturb animals grazing on or near the trail
  • Beware of farm stock that live alongside the trail
