On our tranquil farm we offer visitors a chance to explore the unique environment of the Wairere boulders; a world unique geological phenomenon, right here in Northland. Well marked walking trails take you through the boulder valley and native bush.
The trails follow bridges, boardwalks and stairs, under and over the boulders and take from 40 minutes to 2 hours. We have our own bush pool swimming hole and hidden rock animals in the bush for kids to find.
You can start or end your walk with a coffee and cake at the Boulder Cafe, and if you have a self-contained campervan you can even experience this incredible hidden oasis overnight.
We also have camping for tents now – for the summer season, December to Easter, we are charging $20 a pitch (up to 2 adults and all kids). From Easter to end of November it will be ‘free if you pay for boulder entry’
Charges for to enter Wairere Boulders:
- Adult $15,
- Kids $5,
- Students/Seniors $10,
- Family (2 adults and all kids) $35.
We are open every day, if the cafe is unattended you can pay by cash at the honesty box or bank transfer.
Campervans free overnight stays if paid to go around Boulders.
Wairere Boulders has recently changed hands. Felix and Rita have retired and the Nature reserve has been purchased by the Grant family. Graham & Paula Grant and their 6 children are originally from Scotland. Graham is a farmer and Paula, a vet. They have lived on the Scottish islands, in France and Raglan before moving to the Far North in December 2017. They plan to maintain the nature reserve and develop more activities that complement the unique character of the Wairere Boulders.
