A temporary detour will be in place after ANZAC on the trail near Toia Road (approx. 800m from the northern access point).
The Lake Ōmāpere Trust will be carrying out clearance and restoration work at Te Kuaha waterway (the lake outlet). To ensure everyone’s safety, this section of the trail will be closed while heavy machinery is operating.
Timing:
Works are expected to begin after ANZAC Weekend and run through to 15 May (weather dependent).
Detour:
Please follow signage for a simple reroute via Lake Road, rejoining the trail at the first gateway north of Toia Road.
Thanks for your understanding while this important work is carried out.

Alternate road route scheduled maintenance completed
The alternate road route has now been rolled and graded and is in much better condition for riding.
This is still a gravel road shared with public vehicles, so it’s best suited to experienced adult riders. Please take care and ride safely.

Whangae Road - Repairs
The Far North District Council is undertaking slip repairs on Whangae Road. This necessary work will result in delays while it is being done. We recommend avoiding this route. Work is due to be completed by June 28th.
